⚡ WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE TEST-DRIVE TRYOUT?
The Test-Drive is not a one-on-one skills test.
Athletes train alongside current Blue Lightning team members as a special guest athlete for the day. While they experience a real team practice, our coaching staff evaluates their athleticism, effort, coachability, and readiness for team participation.
From the moment they step onto the track, athletes are immersed in the Blue Lightning experience—training alongside teammates, learning from coaches, and experiencing the culture, energy, and expectations of the program firsthand.
This gives athletes and parents the opportunity to determine whether Blue Lightning is the right fit while coaches evaluate the athlete's athleticism, fitness, competitiveness, coachability, effort, and readiness for team participation.
During the Test-Drive, Coaches evaluate:
✅ Athleticism and coordination
✅ Speed and movement skills
✅ Fitness and conditioning level
✅ Competitiveness and effort
✅ Coachability and ability to follow instruction
✅ Mental toughness and attitude
✅ Ability to keep pace in a structured team training environment
Athletes should come prepared to warm up, run, participate in drills, and complete portions of a regular team practice.
The Test-Drive is a two-way evaluation.
While coaches are evaluating the athlete, parents and athletes are also evaluating the team, coaching staff, training environment, and program culture to determine whether Blue Lightning is the right fit.
⚡ After The Test Drive Tryout
Every athlete who participates in a Test-Drive Tryout will receive one of the following recommendations:
🏆 1. Ready To Join Team
Athletes who demonstrate the athleticism, fitness, coachability, competitiveness, and work ethic needed to train and compete with the team immediately may be invited to join the Blue Lightning Track Club.
🔧 2. Off-Season Conditioning Recommended
Athletes who are not yet ready to join the team may be recommended for our 7-Week Conditioning Program, where they can continue developing their speed, strength, fitness, coordination, confidence, and training habits before being re-evaluated.
📅 Current Season Considerations
Because we are currently in the middle of the Summer Championship Season, athletes are evaluated for immediate competition readiness. Athletes who are not yet ready for championship-level competition will be placed into the most appropriate development pathway for future success.

❌ Athletes unwilling to follow coaching
❌ Athletes not ready for structured training
❌ Athletes unable to jog a lap around the track
❌ Athletes looking for a summer activity only
Before You Register
⚡ TO GET THE MOST VALUE FROM THE TEST-DRIVE, ATHLETES MUST HAVE THE BASIC FITNESS LEVEL TO:
✅ Jog a lap around a standard 400 meter track without stopping
✅ Participate safely in a Blue Lightning warm-up
✅ Complete running drills and portions of a regular team practice
✅ Train alongside athletes in their age group
✅ Follow coaching instructions in a group training environment
✅ Give a positive effort throughout the session
Athletes are not expected to be in championship shape. These minimum fitness requirements simply help ensure they can participate safely and gain meaningful value from the Test-Drive experience.
Why This Matters
The Blue Lightning Test-Drive is a coach-led evaluation designed to identify athletes with the athletic ability, conditioning, and competitive drive to succeed within the Blue Lightning Track Club environment.
Blue Lightning is built on the principle that Iron Sharpens Iron. Athletes improve faster when they train alongside committed, competitive peers who challenge one another to elevate their performance. The purpose of the Test-Drive is to identify athletes who have both the desire and readiness to compete and develop in a structured training environment.
